The BSL workshop is like no other. What is unique? A LOT! Take a look below and find out what makes the BSL Workshop a favorite among interpreters across the nation. We have all seen top ten lists... here are the top ten AWESOME features of the BSL WORKSHOP!

10) SNAZZY WORKSHOP BOOKLET :)

Oh yes... this is not a "pass out our PowerPoint Presentation" type of workshop. We provide students with an awesome workbook which is chop full of information about every topic we cover. There have been multiple versions of this workbook as it has evolved from workshop to workshop but our now second generation BSL Workbook has unique features like home based assignments which you can do post workshop, added web resources, and new charts and graphs to really challenge your specific skills. Take a look at a snapshot of some of the information inside:

9) COMEDIC GROUP INTERACTIONS
We know all the brain exhaustion from a long workshop needs a little "pick me up"... so from "playing dress up", to men dancing like women, to line dancing, this workshop will keep you moving and laughing!

8) CONVICTING TRUTHS
Many workshops teach you a few helpful concepts to guide your career. This workshop will truly convict you, and challenge how you historically have presented yourself as an interpreter to your Deaf consumers whether in music, or in any area of interpreting.

7) ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
The 2 day workshop covers every basic concept you need to know about performance interpreting. It's tough to fit it in, but we give it all we've got. Every attendee leaves mentally exhausted from learning, physically exhausted from practicing but ready to take on the field of performance. What if you have not planned to make performance interpreting your career? Oh, these concepts are completely applicable to every area of interpreting. Plus, one thing we have learned, performance comes up more than you know. Have you or will you interpret for a school, a dance company, a theatre class, a church, or a girl scout troop? These skills and topics are needed in all of those areas as well. Keep in mind, just the physical character development alone will help you nail political interpreting, religious speakers, college professors, or even a manager in a job interview.

6) MEDIA ADDITIVES
Some of the most powerful and unique elements of this workshop are the media additives. We have videos which make quite an impact showing attendees first hand Deaf perspectives, philosophies and theories of performance interpreting and glossing, videos emphasizing unique characteristics of artists, and ones dialing in on the elements attendees need to bring home in order to understand how to bring the stage to life!

5) DEAF FEEDBACK
One of the favorite aspects of this workshop is getting direct feedback from Deaf Consumers. Gate does our best to work with the hosts and make sure that Deaf Consumers are in attendance as evaluators for a portion of the workshop. The result? You get to see first hand immediate responses from the Deaf. What usually happens is that as the workshop gets going, the Deaf regularly are unimpressed by what attendees are doing. As individuals start taking risks, using the information taught, and get bold in their efforts the Deaf start getting excited and see radical changes in everyone. Before the workshop ends the Deaf are usually cheering for the same signers/interpreters that they were unenthusiastic about only hours before. That transition is so motivating for the people in attendance, and for the Deaf. Every person leaves affected.

4) ACTIVE PRACTICE
Most workshops are focused on sitting in your seats and watching a presenter with a PowerPoint. This workshop is far more! This workshop has individuals start with writing and end with hours of stand up practice. That physical element really keeps the workshop moving and most people tell us they feel like the time just flies by.

3) EXPERIENCED PRESENTER
Gate is excited to have Samantha present this workshop. Her humor, her skills, and her experience bring a lot to the table. She is not guiding attendees through concepts unfamiliar or unsuccessful rather she is taking her 2 decades of experience and helping individuals in attendance skip the errors she made along the way, so you can move through this field farther and faster than she did. Plus, she does it with a lot of vulnerability and a whole lot of laughter.

2) ONGOING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
No, it doesn't end with BSL I... we now have BSL II! In addition, attendees can get a personal evaluation at a discounted rate. It doesn't stop there, Gate has private local and distance tutorials in Performance Interpreting if individuals want to take their skills to the next level.

1) HUGE SUCCESS RATE
No one assumes that a single workshop will make perfect performance interpreters over night, however most of us know that when we attend a workshop, we leave having gleaned something, but not radically changed. We regularly hear back from our attendees telling us how they put these concepts to use immediately after the workshop, and received incredible feed back immediately.

Plus, a few extra surprises!
