COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM VENUES:
ARE INTERPETERS PAID BY THE HOUR OR IS THERE A STANDARD RATE?
Every event is different. Some events require less prep time and those are usually set by an hourly rate. Larger events are negotiated. Contact Gate's office for specific fee arrangements for your specific event.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO INTERPRETERS NEED WHEN HIRED?
Gate's interpreters require audio and lighting. Audio can be in the form of a wedge, a hot spot monitor, or ears. Without a monitor the interpreter won't be able to do their job. Please be sure to have your sound man send a vocal mix through the monitor which better enables the interpreter to interpret accurately.
DO INTERPRETERS NEED SPECIAL PASSES?
Passes of course vary from event to event. Parking passes, backstage passes, and stage door passes are needed when in use. Think of the interpreters as performers. Whatever needs the performers have, the interpreters in some capacity will have.
DD INTERPRETERS REQUIRE GREEN ROOMS?
Interpreters do appreciate Green Rooms when available. Often times our interpreters perform in venues which have available rooms. This assists our interpreters in their prep and down time.
DOES THE VENUE NEED TO HIRE MORE THAN ONE INTERPRETER?
Interpreters have a limit to how much they can physically handle, and our job is to protect their bodies so they can have a long and happy career. This is the standard precaution agencies establish. When an event is longer than 2 hours, 2 interpreters are required. Events over 30 minutes interpreted for the Deaf and Blind require 2 interpreters.
WHAT ARE THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR VENUES?

DO THE DEAF NEED SPECIAL SEATING?
This depends on your venue. If the interpreter is on stage, many times the Deaf do not need special seating to understand the interpreter. If the interpreter is placed off the stage there will be a need for special seating so the interpreter can be seen with ease. The Deaf pay to see your performers not the intepreter so placement in a location where the Deaf can see both at the same time is ideal! |
