Gate traditionally travels to Mexico to work with a Deaf school for our annual mission trip. This year, due to the violence in Mexico, for the safety of the children and our team, we are placing the foreign mission trip on hold for 2011. That doesn't mean our missions outreach is in fact closed this year! We have an incredible opportunity to do a week long mission trip right at home. How? Gate is in the process of planning a week long refugee language camp for Deaf Refugees in Tennessee. Interested in getting involved? You can! The process is similar. Fill out an application, walk through a phone/one-on-one interview process and Gate will let you know if you are then accepted onto our Missions at Home team!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Where will the language camp be held?
We are still in the process of finalizing the camp site.

What type of outreach is this?
Deaf refugees have little to no language and they are hungry for someone to support them and intervene teaching them language and showing them love. Most of them have little to no language in Sign or in written form.

What will the missions team do?
The missions team will teach ASL, guide activities, cook meals, love on and laugh with these Deaf refugees.

Do we stay at a camp site or travel to and from our homes daily?
We are in the process of planning that at present. We will likely be traveling back and forth daily but it is not finalized as of yet.

Is there a cost involved? Yes, we will have details to come.
