Gate Communications does have a full private ITP/IPP (Interpreting Training Program or Interpreter Preparation Program). Our ITP is a non-accredited program so it serves individuals well who want individual classes on a flexible schedule, and for individuals planning on becoming certified who already hold a Bachelor's Degree or above.

What does the full program cost?
The cost of the program is comparable to that of a standard ITP, and many times even less! Classes are $30/hr (far less than piano lessons). Overall cost will vary depending on the speed at which the student completes the classes.

Is there a Practicum and Internship?
Yes! Gate does require interpreters complete a full practicum and internship. Both classes involve 120 hours of field work. The Practicum class involves watching/evaluating an interpreter in the field, and the Internship class involves active interpreting.

How long does the full program take?
Our program can be completed at your own pace, but Gate does have 2 timeline recommendations showing full completion in 2 1/2 or 5 years. The program can take under 2 years if students attend classes more than 2 times/week.

Can this program lead to certification?

As of 2012 RID certification (certification through our National certifying organization) will require a Bachelor's Degree. Currently an AA or equivalency to an AA is required. This means that this private ITP will likely qualify as AA equivalency. For more information about these requirements, look below:
