HAVE QUESTIONS?
WE HAVE ANSWERS!

GENERAL QUESTIONS

IS THIS EVENT FOR STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS?

YES! This event is open to anyone with an interest in learning to interpret music effectively.

IS EVERYONE AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED?

We have limited space and we are looking for certain types of interpreters and students. We take all of that into consideration when we check out those applications.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN OUR APPLICANTS?

LOL... some of that is a secret. We can't reveal all our secrets! We will reveal this though... what we do want is real people, imperfect people, teachable people. We want people who will be excited to learn something new and different. We want people who are willing to stretch the boundaries. We want people willing to look a bit like a "dufus" as you try something new. Trust us, no one will care what you look like because everyone will be worried about themselves.  We want people who are willing to admit maybe they make mistakes. We want people willing to risk admitting their imperfections to grow.  We want people who are willing to gloss different, move different, sign different, use different eye gaze, different crowd interaction, different pantomime/constructed action, and use more emotions. Think you are a perfect interpreter? Please don't apply. The Bahamas are calling. Don't want feedback? RUN AWAY! Don't run to Nashville. You will hate it. Believe your opinions are the only right ones? Opt for that root canal you have been putting off. We want people who, no matter their experience or skill level, are willing to try new things to make what they produce, better.

What is this workshop like? We want to be a family.  We don't want people arguing over vaccination status, mask mandates or lack there-of, interpreter politics, or any politics for that matter. We want a peaceful, fun, positive environment. and if you want to be a part of a family you will likely stay close to, if you want to be able to laugh and cry with people, if you want a safe place to admit your insecurities and find support, if you want to really change what you do and do it better... THIS IS THE WORKSHOP FOR YOU.

WILL WE HAVE DEAF EVALUATORS?

YES!

WILL THERE BE A LOT OF HANDS UP TIME?

YES! YES! YES! 2 of the 3 days are packed with hands up time.

WILL WE COVER GLOSSING?

YES! ...and it will discuss some perspectives you haven't considered.

WE HEARD THAT BSL NASHVILLE HAS NIGHT CONCERTS WHERE INTERPRETERS CAN PRACTICE THEIR SKILLS, WILL THERE BE ANY AT "THE ENCORE"?

Nashville has had such a difficult season... with downtown tornados, flooding, a bombing, and COVID, this town has been through a lot in the last 3 years. Many of the locations we use for BSLN were damaged, destroyed, or have not financially recovered from the last 3 years.  With that in mind and in considering the differences between our Mini-BSLNs and our full intensive, we decided it was good to pack those away for a time. They will return with our full workshop.

WILL THERE BE A GOODBYE DINNER?

YES! We have to have some form of a send off!

I HAVE ATTENDED AN INTENSIVE BEFORE, DO I STILL NEED TO APPLY & SUBMIT VIDEOS?

Yep. The paperwork changes so we need new paperwork, and your skills change constantly so your videos do matter as well. If you have already attended it's likely we already adore you so applying should be a piece of cake!

DO WE GET INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION?

YES! You will receive a personal eval of your audition songs. You will also get personal feedback throughout the workshop.

ONLINE vs LIVE PORTION OF THE WORKSHOP

HOW MUCH ONLINE CONTENT IS THERE?
Collectively, we have approximately 4 hours of online content.

WILL THE ONLINE CONTENT NEED TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE WORKSHOP?

Yes, however you can do it at 3 in the morning in your jammies if you would like, so it shouldn't be difficult to accomplish.

WHAT IS THE ONLINE CONTENT LIKE?
The online content will cover:

  • Introductions

  • Logistics

  • Part 1 of Glossing

FOREIGN PARTICIPANTS

WE LOVE OUR FOREIGNERS!
We would hate to not see you but of course, with COVID, travel does become more complicated.  Click here to listen to the summary of COVID requirements.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Gate is happy to accommodate special needs. This workshop is offered in English and there are many well thought out reasons for that. Access is provided to the Deaf for live teaching either via a interpreter, or SimComming when no interpreters are available.  Music portions will be captioned when possible. Requests for services must be made at the time of the application. Any additional accommodation requests? Just contact our office at the time of your application and we will do our best to accommodate.
