HELP A DEAF CHILD
THIS CHRISTMAS!
Here in America we have such wonderful opportunities to celebrate Christmas, but without our help, these Mexican Deaf children won't have the opportunity to enjoy the holidays with gifts. Kids need shoes constantly, and 14 years ago we began to fund a Christmas outreach program for these Deaf children to help provide gifts the kids can pick out themselves during the holidays. So with the support of a Deaf school called Con Mis Manos in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, we created The Hope Tree program, giving us a chance to sponsor Deaf children, and giving the school a chance to impact these children's Christmas' and education in a time of need.
If you have listened to the news about Mexico, you hear that Matamoros is an extremely impoverished and dangerous city, yet in spite of the rampant poverty, the excessive abuse these kids face at home, the extreme oppression these kids confront daily, and the dangers they face in a cartel driven town, they come to school with smiles and a determination to learn. We do all we can to help the school, and they do all they can to help these children live safe and happy lives. This is one of our favorite ways to help!

Your support can help the Deaf children of Con Mis Manos have an incredible holiday! Your sponsorship can support the provision of a new pair of shoes to a child, a pizza party and arcade trip for the children to celebrate Christmas, gifts for the teachers at the school who sacrifice so much to give the children a free and safe education, and you can even fund the residential needs of the school as they face additional costs during the holidays. None of this can happen without your help! It all starts right here with your tax-deductible donation.

What type of school is this?
A private residential school for the Deaf.
Where is the school?
Con Mis Manos ("With My Hands") is located just South of Brownsville, TX in a city called Matamoros. You will often see Matamoros on the news because of the intense Cartel activity in that city.
Are these students impoverished?
YES! Many don't have running water in their homes and use outhouses as bathrooms. Some live in the dump or in shanties, but almost all of the students living off campus live in conditions we would not feel comfortable in as Americans. The campus itself does have more favorable conditions.
What is life like for the Deaf in Northeastern Mexico?
The Deaf have no legal status in Northeastern Mexico. They have no rights, no access to interpreters, no access to public education, no access to communication in medical environments. They are legally not even considered "human".
