RAISING UP/TEARING DOWN
DEAF/INTERPRETER MINISTRIES

Churches can be incredible places of healing bringing unity and holiness to attendees, but they are also run by "people". People make mistakes, and interpreters are infamous for allowing egos and agendas to take down beautiful and successful ministries, leaving a wake of broken hearts and lives. This section confronts what will help ministries to flourish and what often will tear them down. This section is very "real" very "raw" and very "honest".

POSTURE OF WORSHIP

One of the most powerful aspects of the greatest worship leaders is their unrelenting abandonment. We are going to explore abandonment in worship.

PERSON OF WORSHIP

To create an atmosphere of worship, interpreters need to prepare themselves personally to be able to drop their walls and open themselves up to become a conduit for the Holy Spirit. This is the place it happens.

PERFORMANCE IN WORSHIP

There are a thousand details to consider...

  • Masculinity/Femininity of Artists

  • Formality/Informality of Songs/Churches

  • Physical Representation of Vocal Expressions

  • Physical Representation of Musical Elements

This section will teach interpreters to
"Bring WORSHIP to Life!"

Just for fun...

Let's test what you know.

Interpret the song you see below without looking at the hints listed below it. Once you are done, read the topics to consider and see how much you included while you were interpreting.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
STEP 1: Interpret the song (note this will be a tough translation without knowing the meaning ahead of time).

STEP 2: Let's stop and consider some important aspects of the song:

  • Did you worship? You are the conduit for the Deaf consumer to be able to worship. If you aren't worshiping, than neither were they. You become the worship leader for he Deaf.

  • How would you dress? Steffany has a unique look. If you match that worship team and Steffany, you might have to rethink your wardrobe, there also might be a visit to Goodwill.

  • Steffany has unique mannerisms. Did you try and match those. Did you try and match those?

  • Steffany doesn't make a lot of eye contact with the audience. She is worshiping. Did you stare down your audience?

  • Did you show us the transitions in the music? Did you sign with more power when the power of the music increased and sign with more gentility when the power of the music decreased?

  • Did you show the movement of her voice with the unique characteristics of her voice on display?

This is just a TASTE of what we will cover. This workshop is packed... PACKED with information (just look at the topics to the left!) It's funny, but it's full. Hope you will join us!
